Your local Charnwood West Beat Team would like to remind residents to stay safe during the current spell of warm weather.

With higher temperatures, we often see an increase in young people visiting lakes, rivers, and other open water areas. While this may seem like a fun way to cool down, open water can be extremely dangerous. Please help us keep everyone safe by sharing the following advice:

Water Safety Tips:

Avoid swimming in open water such as quarries, reservoirs, and rivers unless it is a designated and supervised area

Be aware that water temperatures can be much colder than expected, even during hot weather

Strong currents, hidden debris, and sudden drops can pose serious risks

Never jump or dive into unknown water — this can lead to serious injury

Always look out for friends and encourage safer activities

In an emergency, call 999 and ask for the Fire Service or Police
